Our Purpose
Dallas Love Field Chaplaincy's purpose is to provide hope, pastoral care, and emotional encouragement to all people of all faith traditions in the airport community of Love Field (passengers, airline and airport employees, vendors, and security personnel) and to maintain a chapel for prayer and meditation.
Developmental Leaders
Dr. R.W. Bobby Martin is the founding member of the Dallas Love Field Chaplaincy team and is serving as the Executive Chaplain. In 2005 Dr. Martin began the process of establishing a chaplaincy ministry at Dallas Love Field. In 2006 Bishop D. D. Hayes joined the Dallas Love Field Executive team as the Consulting Chaplain. And in 2007 Reverend Larry Vowell joined the Executive Team as Chaplain.
Dr. R.W. Bobby Martin has been engaged in chaplaincy ministry since 1983 serving as volunteer hospital chaplain at RHD Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, and expanding that role in 1986 to include Trinity Medical Center, Carrollton, Texas. In 1997 Dr. Martin was a co-founder of the Carrollton Police Chaplaincy where he continues to volunteer. He also is a member of International Conference of Police Chaplains. Beginning in 2001 to present, Dr. Martin serves on the Board of Directors for the DFW Airport Interfaith Chaplaincy. He volunteers with the DFW Airport chaplains to support the military troops during their R and R deployments. Dr. Martin is a member of International Association of Civil Airport Chaplains.
In 2002 Dr. Martin was certified as a Victim Chaplain with Victim Chaplain and Counselor Association of America. As a Victim Chaplain, Dr. Martin was deployed by Victim Relief Ministries to the Columbia Space Shuttle disaster and Katrina Hurricane disaster in the 9th Ward of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Dallas. In 2005 Victim Relief Ministries deployed Dr. Martin to provide chaplaincy assistance for DMORT (Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team). In 2006 he volunteered as a chaplain with Texas Alliance of Raceway Ministries for the NASCAR events at Texas Motor Speedway. Dr. Martin is trained as a chaplain and is highly involved in various chaplaincy ministries.
Bishop D.D. Hayes joined the Dallas Love Field Chaplaincy team in 2006 as the Consulting Chaplain. During the year Bishop Hayes has offered his expertise for the early development stages of the Dallas Love Field Chaplaincy. Bishop Hayes is a highly respected Airport Chaplain. He is on the Executive Board of the International Association of Civil Airport Chaplains, serving as the Board Secretary for the past two years. Currently, he is the Head Chaplain at DFW Airport Interfaith Chaplaincy where he has served for more than fifteen years.
Rev. Larry Vowell has been in ministry for 42 years, having served local churches as a Minister of Education and two associations in Texas as an Education Specialist and Consultant. He has been involved in Chaplaincy Ministry for many years, first being trained in Seminary in Pastoral Ministry and later being certified with Victim Relief Chaplaincy Ministry. Chaplaincy work has taken him to multiple locations in Texas, New Orleans, LA, and Oklahoma. Reverend Vowell has been very involved in serving as a Chaplain for the Collin Baptist Disaster Relief Units which send teams to disaster areas to do chain saw work and clean out flooded homes. He is involved in training others to serve with these groups as Chaplains/Spiritual Responders when they are called out for a disaster.
